Mia Hall
Mia Hall is an artist and educator based in Little Rock, AR, where she is heading the Furniture Design Department at University of Arkansas in Little Rock as well as producing one-of-a kind works that are being exhibited locally and nationally.
She is producing conceptual as well as functional work. The conceptual work is based on questions and awareness of gender, social and cultural issues through pieces that are conjecturing from her own past experiences. The series titled Candid Conversations keeps growing out of these thoughts and concerns. Fortunately, her own life and the life of friends and fictitious media figures alike, provides her with a never-ending source for topics to approach. Domestic Expectations is a short series inspired by the marital division of labor based on gender. The much different Botanicals series has satisfied a need within her as an artist and craftsman to make interesting formal objects. Forms, colors, and textures derived from nature inspire each sculpture or cabinets. The small cabinets question the notion of function in that they are essentially cabinets with the traditional function of a cabinet removed rendering them wall-sculptures.
